Recovering From an Overload of Debt
If you are used to putting anything that you want on a credit card and paying it off later then you are in for a cold shock. The time for change is now. If you need some help getting off of debt overload then these instructions can help you.
Step 1
Get an idea of how much you owe. Take a good hard look at the whole of your debt. This may shock you into doing what you need to do. Also, it will give you a place to start from when paying down the debt.
Step 2
Learn to leave your plastic at home. This may be a hard thing to do at first, but eventually you will get used to it. The promise here is simple, your debt can’t grow if you don’t charge.
Step 3
Check your bill for any recurring monthly charges. These are very sneaky and can gunk up your bill very quickly. You need to get rid of these charges as quickly as possible. Do whatever you need to in order cancel them.
Step 4
Plan on your seasonal expenses or other expenses like birthdays. If you look ahead and keep in mind that you need to save for them you will not need to charge a last second gift.
Step 5
If you need to block your favorite online shopping sites on all of your computers. That way even if you are tempted you will not be able to spend on them.
